1 table? 2 or 3

there is a poll on the soundersfc.com website right now which asks,

When Seattle becomes the 15th MLS team in 2009, I’d like to see the league
standings

- Change to a single table

- Change to 3 divisions

- Remain with 2 divisions

1404 people had voted at the time of this post and the majority favor either 2 or 3 divisions. compared to only 35% of the people wanting a single table

i am one of the 35% i have to tell you. i am sure it is b/c i grew up on european football that i am biased, but i have never really understood the value of multiple divisions. my biggest beef with the two divisions is that a team could win one division but would have finished mid table in the other. it artificially inflates how good that team is. yes there are ups and downs, and one year it is one division that is stronger than the next...but what does that do for the game? a single table more accurately shows the relative strength of how good each team is.

i am not against change, but if someone can convince me that the multiple divisions have an advantage over the single table, i don't think i am going to agree with the masses on this one.

I could not agree with you more, divisions and conferences were created in a time when cross country travel was impossible. This is no longer the case, single table and eventually relegation/promotion.

i TOTALLY agree with the relegation and promotion as well. we are a long way away from that however. but how sweet that would be.
