so i have seen and read all the rumours about us signing freddy montero just like the rest of you probably have. at this point, i think it is fair to say, that they still are just rumours. from what i can discern, he has said things like "he has hopes and dreams of playing outside of columbia" and "the mls has much to offer"
mix that in with the mls-rumors.net page that has this article. Well, a toronto fc fan emailed in and saidthe mls has a $2million dollar stake in him (and that is only 60%) plus the part that says he will play for the sounders... and well, there you have a rumor.
we have no idea who this toronto fan is... he could be the step brother of montero, or some canuck hopped up on canadian bacon and molsen for all we know.
so as it is, i can't belive that the MLS would own 60% of a player for that kind of money that has put only put in goals in the columbian league.... all due respect to that league, but, it just doesn't scream $2m for any player.
so this one just doesn't pass the BS test as far as i am concerned.

not many players in the mls could put 11 goals in the mls. and he does pass the test. a young upcoming south american player coming to play in the mls that is better than some washed up has been who is using the mls as an retirement league. this is exatcly the type of player mls should sign. they should also look at the top scorers in the ecuadorian league and urugyuan league. he came from the same team jamison olave did and and hes just been one of the best defenders in the mls.
i have ruffled a few peoples feathers with this post and that was not the intention.
i am not saying we shouldn't go after this kid. not at all. all i meant by this post, is that i really think that this is just in the rumor category. 11 goals is good, yes, but it he is still young and there is no way he demands $2mm.
but i am all for signing up and coming, especially from south africa.
