what is the significance of March 19th?

well, most of you good loyal Sounders fans will say that it is the first ever game of the Seattle Sounders FC. we will play new york and it will be live to a national audience no less.

well you aren't wrong, in fact you are very much right. but the problem is, it is more than that.

my wife and i are having our second child. and as some fantastically dumb luck would have it... our due date... yeah, you guessed it by now already didn't you. March 19th.

no doubt all you dads out there, and probably other people too, are saying... don't worry, second babies often come early. and yes you are right... but what if the baby is 1 day early. I am going to be that guy that has to ask his wife if it is ok to go to the game while she stays home with a 1 day old baby and a "helpful" 3 year old.

if it was the first day of the season on season #2, no big deal. but this is the inaugural game. the first ever. there will never be another.

i can just hear it now. over the PA. "Would the really really bad father that decided to come to this game please head to the hospital, your wife is 10cm dilated and your kid is running around the hospital with some forceps yelling 'EPIDURAL, I WANT AN EPIDURAL TOO'"

if the moons, stars, gods, planets, witches and crystals have it in for me though, i will be in the delivery room at 6pm, march 19th. and those rooms don't even have ESPN2

this is going to be fun to see how this plays out.
